"FOR THE LAST TIME DON'T CROSS THE RED LINE" - CCRO

RHDR Startup Procedure

Stage 1

Hydraulic & Lubrication Startup

Go to the Hydraulic Control panel. Set the pump selection switch to the left for Pump A, then start the Pump A starter.

  • Enable automatic cooling control.
  • While hydraulic pressure builds, move to the panel on your right.
  • Locate the Lubrication Panel.
  • Turn on the Electric Oil Pump.
  • Turn on the Cooling Pumps.
  • Enable Automatic Oil Cooling and Automatic Generator Cooling.

Return to the Hydraulic Control panel and confirm the hydraulic pressure is in the green zone, approximately 180.

Next, move to the Coolant Panel on the far right.

  • Turn on the Coolant Valve.
  • Turn on the Coolant Pump.

If a coolant filter becomes clogged during operation, switch to the alternate filter. For example, if Filter A clogs, switch to Filter B, call 1400 on the phone, and replace Filter A.

Stage 2

Spillway & Water Control

Once coolant systems are running, move behind the panel to the Spillway Control.

  • Turn on the Spillway Hydraulic Pump.
  • Turn on Spillway Hydraulic Master 1 and Master 2.

After pressure builds, look to the right to locate the Tailwater Gauges.

  • The first gauge shows the rate of water flow.
  • The second gauge contains two needles.
  • The red needle shows the requested tailwater height.
  • The black needle shows the current tailwater height.

Use the spillway controls to adjust the water level until the black needle matches the red needle.

Example: If the requested tailwater height is 6 meters and the current level is 3 meters, open the spillways to increase water flow.

  • Monitor the first gauge to track the rate of change.
  • When the TAILWATER ON DEMAND light appears, balance the controls to maintain the level.

Also monitor the Reservoir Rate of Change gauge.

  • This gauge works the same way as the tailwater rate gauge.
  • Keep it stable to avoid draining or filling the reservoir too quickly.

Once both water levels are stable, move to the Turbine Control Area.

Stage 3

Turbine Startup & Grid Synchronization

  • Open the MIV Bypass fully until it reaches 100.
  • Wait for the green "Ready to Open" light.
  • The bypass will automatically close once ready.

Arm the Nitrogen System, then open the main MIV Gate in front of you.

  • Press the green 100% button.

An alarm will sound. Look to the left for the flashing MIV PARTIAL OPEN indicator.

Wait until the indicator stops flashing.

  • Release the Turbine Brake.
  • Turn on the Excitation Master under the cover.
  • Enable Auto Excitation Control.
  • Turn on Auto Runup.
  • Select 3600 RPM.

When turbine speed reaches 1800 RPM, perform the following:

  • Turn off the Electric Oil Pump on the Lubrication Panel.
  • Switch the Wicket Gate Power Source from Electric to Hydraulic on the Turbine Panel.

As RPM approaches 3600, monitor the Synchroscope.

  • The voltage gauge next to the RPM indicator should remain in the green zone.
  • Lift the red cover for Breaker C3, but do not press it yet.
  • Wait until the synchroscope needle points straight up between SLOW and FAST.

Open Breaker C3 exactly when the synchroscope needle is vertical.

Turn on auto intake sweep

Next, move to the Power Control Panel.

  • Turn on Breaker B1.

If Bus B shows an under-voltage condition:

  • Open the Wicket Gates slightly until demand is met.
  • Enable Island Power Feed.
  • Turn off the Startup Transformer.

The plant is now fully started. If additional help is needed, ask in the Discord server.
